It happened just after 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9 in Orange County on Route 6 in the town of Woodbury.

The chain of events began when a New York State Park Police officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on the Palisades Interstate Parkway near Exit 17.

The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop at which time the vehicle failed to comply and fled., according to New York State Police.

The Park Police officer terminated pursuing the vehicle and observed the suspect vehicle exit the Parkway at Exit 18 heading westbound on Route 6.

The Park Police officer continued onto Route 6 westbound at a reduced speed. Approximately 3 miles up the road, the officer observed a three-car crash.

An investigation revealed that the suspect vehicle, a 2019 Infiniti, had been traveling westbound on Route 6 when it rear-ended a Toyota Sienna minivan which was also traveling westbound.

The result of the collision caused the Sienna to cross over into the eastbound lane of Route 6 where the Toyota Sienna was then struck by a 2017 Mercedes-Benz traveling eastbound.

The two individuals in the Infiniti fled the scene and have not been located. Original reports stated that one suspect was at large.

Two of the three occupants of the Sienna were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released.

Another passenger in the Sienna was transported to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla for treatment.

The operator of the Mercedes was transported to Garnet Medical Center in Middletown and treated for minor injuries.

"There is no threat to the public at this time," according to state police, who noted that the investigation is ongoing.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office and New York State Park Police are assisting state police with the investigation.
